Playground

October 2021

We are delighted to announce that the Playground has now fully opened.

We have now enhanced our community by building a children’s playground at Bell Meadow. We have raised in excess of £30k through donations, fundraising and grant applications and we are now so excited to see the playground open.

After careful consideration we selected Caloo as our Playground supplier. The playground will be built from Robinia, a hard wood which is very natural in appearance and perfect for our rural setting at Bell Meadow. Skippers Ground Maintenance are our fencing contractor.

Woodham Walter Parish Council first started thinking about a new playground in 2017, a Working Party of volunteers was formed and a Village Questionnaire distributed in 2018 which showed support for creating a playground at Bell Meadow. Our fundraising was launched at Bell Meadow Day on 25th August 2019 where we had a stall to display information about the playground and also about the task of raising £30k+ in order to achieve the project.  Some of this funding has been raised locally with donations, events, crowd funding etc and we have been busy with Grant applications.

We were delighted to be awarded £10,000 from the National Lottery Awards For All fund, £10,000 from the Essex County Council’s Community Initiatives Fund, £1000 from the Essex County Council Locality Fund awarded by Councillor Penny Channer and £2,500 from Essex Community Foundation (supported by the Middlewick Wind Farm Community Fund & Crix Charitable Trust).

Woodham Walter Parish Council and the Playground Working Party are delighted with this new facility for our village and were delighted to welcome everyone to the playground for the opening ceremony on Saturday 2nd October 2021.

During the Grand Opening Ceremony we thanked the many local businesses, organisations, families and individuals who have contributed and supported the project as well as those who have provided Grants to achieve this major new facility.
